Police: Man critically injured in Longwood Manor was not shot

A man who police had initially reported was shot and critically injured in the South Side Longwood Manor neighborhood actually suffered a heart attack.

Officers were dispatched at 8:34 a.m. to the 9700 block of South Loomis for reports of a person lying on the ground, bleeding from his head, according to Chicago Police. They arrived to find the man, whose age was not immediately known, on the ground with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to his head, chest and hand.

It was later determined that the man had suffered a heart attack, police said. His injuries were not caused by gunshots, but may have happened as a result of a fall.

The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, police said.
