Surveillance video from a Cook County holding cell shows prominent Chicago defense lawyer Joe “The Shark” Lopez hitting his then-client, Carlton Brooks, after the two argued before a hearing in September. Monday, a judge acquitted Lopez of misdemeanor battery charges, finding that the veteran lawyer– who has represented mob boss Frank Calabrese and convicted murderer Drew Peterson– may have been in fear for his safety when he struck out at Brooks. Brooks has a pending civil lawsuit against Lopez.
