In 1997, Cook County Judge Dennis Porter sentenced Nevest Coleman to life in prison for a rape and murder.

On Friday, Coleman returned to Porter’s courtroom for the first time in two decades to see whether the judge would free him on bond now that new DNA evidence links the crime to a serial rapist.
