A press release from City Year Chicago states:
City Year Chicago is eager to announce on Monday, January 17th, the organization will return to in-person service for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Project. Our virtual Opening Ceremony will include Mayor Lightfoot, State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, Lt. Governor Stratton, Senators Duckworth and Durtbin, as well as CEO of Chicago Public Schools, Pedro Martinez.
City Year Chicago’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service shines a spotlight on service as a powerful force to bridge social divides and to improve educational opportunities for students across the country.
In coordination with our local school partner, City Year Chicago will bring together volunteers in half day shifts to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King by engaging in service projects in one of our partner schools, beautifying the facility as a surprise for their students. We have separated our volunteers into 5-6 person pods, working in individual classrooms to ensure safety for all.
