Brookfield Zoo penguins new ‘adoptive’ parents

At the Living Coast exhibit at Brookfield Zoo—the one and one-half month-old male Humboldt penguin chick (born approx. Feb. 20) pokes his head out of the nest next to his father Ceviche.  Ceviche and Salsa, both 10, are actually foster parents, since the egg Salsa hatched was from a penguin at the Columbus Zoo. Their own egg was infertile. The zoo switched out a fake egg and then a viable egg arrived from Columbus. The parents treat the as-yet-unnamed chick as their own.
